Masjid Al-Noor

Masjid Al-Noor, "the Mosque of Light," located in Wayamba on the Tamale Airport Road, stands as a major spiritual and educational landmark in Tamale. It was founded by Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam (Anta), whose vision for the mosque dates back to his childhood, when, as a young learner of the Qur'an, he dreamt of establishing a mosque in the service of Allah and for the benefit of the Muslim community.

Work on the mosque commenced in June 2024 and was completed in June 2026, with its official commissioning scheduled for July 2026. With an inner capacity of 6,000 worshippers and outer grounds able to accommodate an additional 4,000, Masjid Al-Noor is one of the largest Islamic centers of prayers in Ghana.

Masjid Al-Noor's elegant architectural design and construction were undertaken by Alhaji Engineer Kabiru Idris of Shaddis Limited, Kumasi, whose work gave physical expression to the founder's vision.

In addition to its main prayer facilities and designated spaces for men and women, the mosque hosts the Sheikh Adam Issah Center for Islamic Research, which includes a library of Islamic literature and an Islamic school dedicated to the intellectual and moral development of children and youth. The center honors Sheikh Adam Issah, who devoted his life to teaching the Qur'an and Islamic knowledge until his death on 22 May 1983.

Masjid Al-Noor is envisioned not only as a place of worship, but also as a center for spiritual growth, Qur'anic learning, family guidance and counseling, community outreach, research, intellectual development, and Islamic social events.

The Masjid also houses the offices of Noorul Hayat Foundation, an Islamic charity dedicated to support charitable causes.

Masjid Al-Noor stands as a symbol of faith, learning, and community service, reflecting a vision that unites worship, knowledge, and moral formation in the service of present and future generations.

Noorul Hayat Foundation (NHF) is a registered Islamic charitable non-governmental organization that serves as the custodian of Masjid Al-Noor, where its administrative offices are also located.

It is committed to supporting the mosque's initiatives as well as other impactful charitable causes across Ghana. The Foundation's core responsibilities include supporting maintenance works in Masjid Al-Noor and ensuring reliable staff remuneration.

Beyond the mosque, the Foundation extends its reach by providing donations to deprived communities, offering scholarships to individuals in need, and spearheading various community development projects.

Chaired by Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, the Foundation currently operates two flagship initiatives: the Zakat Fund and the Ramadan Relief Program.

The Zakat Fund collects contributions from Muslims seeking to fulfill their religious zakat obligations, carefully channeling these financial resources toward vetted charitable causes. The Ramadan Relief Program is dedicated to providing regular iftar meals for worshippers at Masjid Al-Noor throughout the holy month.

The Foundation actively welcomes donations to sustain and expand its work. To uphold the highest standards of transparency and institutional accountability, the Noorul Hayat Foundation commits to publishing semi-annual and annual reports detailing all financial contributions received and charitable activities undertaken.
